Save 2nd Base - a #giveaway for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that 1 in 8 US women (about 12%) will develop breast cancer in her lifetime? (source)

When I think about my girlfriends, aunts, cousins, and sister, and think that of every 8 of us, 1 of us could be diagnosed, that's a very scary statistic.

So far, my family and I have been lucky.  For this I'm very thankful.  Unfortunately, I know too many friends and co-workers who have not.

While breast cancer is largely related to genetics, there are some things you can do to reduce your chances - or at least catch it early.
  1. Limit alcohol, don't smoke and control your weight.
  2. Be physically active.
  3. Breast feed.
  4. Limit the duration of hormone therapy.
  5. Reduce exposure to radiation and environmental toxins.
  6. Take advantage of early detection examinations - most insurance companies cover regular physicals and mammograms.  I just had mine and am blessed to have received a clean bill of health!  If they don't, there may be agencies in your area which will cover them for uninsured women.  You just have to do your research.
  7. Know your own breasts.  Take note of any visible changes.  Do breast self-exams.  If you have any suspicion that something seems "off" - see your doctor.  (source, source)
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and my friend, Paul, at Suddora, has developed a line of Breast Cancer Awareness sweatbands and headbands, with a portion of sales going to Brides Against Breast Cancer.  He sent me enough sets for 3 giveaways but if you would love to support a great cause, head over to Suddora and pick up some extras.

Want to win?  Enter through Rafflecopter below - mandatory entry is to leave a comment listing 1 thing you will do to help save 2nd base in yourself or someone you love.

Giveaway is open to residents of the United States or those with a USPS mailing address.  Suddora Sports provided me with 3 sets of headbands and sweatbands to give away.  All opinions are my own.

Declare It Day & a #giveaway

This past February 1st, I got together with a bunch of amazing women for Declare It Day.  What is Declare It Day, you ask? According to Fellow Flowers,
"Declare It Day is about putting words and dreams into action and declaring a goal that you are committed to working toward and achieving."

The idea is to put in writing a goal that scares you, that is outside your comfort zone enough that will require you to work for it.  You then declare it out loud and your friends help you stick to your resolve and help you do whatever it takes to reach that goal.  What's my goal?

"In 2014, I declare to run a 4:59 marathon by following a smart training plan, listening to my body, and not running races as training runs."

EEK!

I have my sights set on the 2014 Detroit Marathon.  This is a scary goal for me since I'm not able to run more than 3 miles at a time, 2 times a week.  It's going to be tough but I'm not giving up yet.

And now for the Giveaway portion of today's post!  Suddora Sports sent me 2 Suddora Velvet Lined Headbands, one to keep (in black) and one to give away (in white).  These are great for sweaty workouts when you don't want something sliding out of your hair.  It even keeps my shorter bangs out of my face and the elastic on the back doesn't slide up either.

Enter to win using the Rafflecopter below.  Mandatory entry - leave a blog post telling me one thing that scares you (can be a fitness goal or not).  Additional entries are available by following Suddora on Twitter and Facebook, liking Live Laugh Run Breathe on Facebook, and tweeting about this giveaway.  Giveaway is good to anyone in the US.  Make sure there's a way for me to reach you so I can send you your headband if you win! Contest begins 2/10/14 and ends 2/16/14.

If you can't wait to win, Suddora has set up a 50% discount for my readers, good until 2/28/14 when you order a headband through Amazon.

Fitness Friday: a #giveaway from @SuddoraSports

A few weeks ago, Paul from Suddora contacted me about partnering for some giveaways on my blog. You all know I'm all for reviewing fun workout stuff and giving things away to my readers, so I said "Sure!".

Suddora is a growing sporting goods site that sells headbands, armbands, and a variety of other workout gear and accessories from a bunch of different brands.  Paul asked which headband I'd like to try and sent me this adorable Chica Bands Zen headband to review (plus another exactly like it to give away)!

Even on my least favorite machine I look cute & my hair is out of my face.
I had never tried Chica Bands before and was excited to receive one.  The band is beautiful - I think I could just wear it with my regular clothes - and the velvet on the back side of the band definitely kept it from slipping.  On Wednesday, I tried it out on the ARC trainer and for lifting, then on Thursday I gave it a workout in spin class. No slipping and it kept my hair back.

Now, how do you win your own Chica Bands Zen headband?

  1. Mandatory - visit the Suddora sweatbands page and come back to leave a comment telling me which one you like the best.
  2. For bonus entries, "like" Suddora on Facebook and/or follow them on Twitter (up to 2 extra entries). Come back here and leave a separate comment for each one.
  3. For additional entries, share this giveaway on Twitter, Facebook or your own blog (up to 3 more entries). Make sure you leave comments telling me how you shared - links would even be better so I can give you some social media love :)
That's 6 chances to win a beautiful Chica Bands Zen headband of your own.  I'll choose a winner using my awesome Fruit Machine next Thursday, November 22nd (that's Thanksgiving Day) after 8pm EST and post the winner on Friday morning, November 23rd.  Make sure there is a way for me to contact you if you win!  Good luck!
